Video recording student theatrical performances

Is it permissible within copyright to videotape a college drama department production of a play and to give a copy of the DVD to each student to use for their portfolios or auditions?

The college has permission from Samuel French to perform the play however the license information from Samuel French seems to indicate that this may be a violation of copyright law. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Video recording student theatrical performances

The license information will trump copyright law, I believe- if your license says that you can't do it, you probably shouldn't do it even if it would be legal otherwise.
