copyright and QR

  • I am helping a music history class plan a gallery display. The class wanted to use a portable stereo to play relevant music in the gallery, which I said would be a public performance copyright issue. We came up with the idea of creating an online playlist for the display, which visitors could access on personal devices through a QR code. I thought this would be okay since it is essentially just sharing a URL. Since the gallery is in a library, people will have to use earphones to listen. Are we on solid ground here? I tried to find examples of anyone doing something similar but had no luck. Did we stumble on to a novel solution, or is it just too obvious for anyone to write about?
