Keeping a textbook on library reserve semester after semeste

  • Are there any copyright prohibitions on keeping textbook on reserve semester after semester?
  • If you're referring to keeping a physical textbook on reserve (not copies), then I don't think there are copyright prohibitions. If you're talking about copies, then copyright law does apply, but it will vary depending on the situation.
  • The right of first sale would indeed allow the textbook to be kept on reserve for as long as the professor and library wished to do so. Photo- or digital copies are a different matter, of course, subject to the copyright interpretation/policy of each individual institution.
