donated videos from documentary producer

  • The producer of several documentaries made for television broadcast donated a collection of videos he produced to our library. These videos are items he burned onto DVD himself, not the packaged version one would get if buying them retail. Are we violating copyright law if we add the DVDs to our collection?
  • If they're lawfully made copies- assuming that the director had the right to make them in the first place- then I believe you can add them to your collection, via the doctrine of first sale (section 109). If anyone disagrees, please post. ^_^
