My Illustrations and photography

  • Hi,
In the past I was employed by a manufacturing company. During my 23 years there as an artist/photography I produced many images for the company for advertising purposes. Some were art hand illustrations. Many of the photos I shot were used on covers of magazines in our industry. I no longer work at the company and now want to start-up my own website and graphics company. Can I legally use some of those illustrations and photos that I produced for visual examples of my work on my own website?
  • Depending on the terms of your employment with the manufacturing company, you might have to request permission from the company before you can use the images. It is likely that your former employer owns the copyright in the images you created while you worked for them. This would be a question of contract between you and the company.
