AMV workshop

  • I teach workshops for teens designed to increase technical literacy and I'm interested in teaching a workshop on making Anime Music Videos. When I've taught other classes on using programs like Windows Movie Maker to synch up audio and video, which is basically what I'll be teaching here, I've always worked under the impression that, in a classroom setting, using small clips from a larger video piece falls under fair use provided that they stay within the classroom setting (i.e. they don't get uploaded to YouTube).

When I started thinking about doing AMVs, I realized that I've never really used video clips from anything as commercial as anime before. I'm worried maybe that is crossing the line. The workshops are free, so it's not a commercial use and it's still only small portions of the entire work, but I'm concerned that it might not fit under the other two guidelines ("nature of the copyrighted work" and "effect on market value"). What do you think?
