  I just got a request from a new faculty member who wants to use a book that is full text online on a website called scribd.com. However, the book is listed on Amazon and does have a copyright notice in it. This site has a copyright management system, but I don't know that it is complete or accurate. My response would be that it might be problematic to use this as a source for a course syllabus. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this website? Thanks!

  Scribd allows anyone to upload any document. You'll actually have to follow up and determine whether or not the document is there legally. If it's not, using it as a source would probably not be appropriate.
