Medical ebooks are not treated any differently than any other copyrighted material. There are many resources linked from our homepage on educational exemptions for using copyrighted material. Ebooks fall under the same copyright law as print materials. There may also be some licensing involved when you purchase an ebook from a vendor. I'm not sure if you are asking about using or as an author. - October 13, 2011 @ 7:31amLMatthews says:Sorry for the somewhat late response, but I wanted to firstly thank LWilliamson for posting this useful copyright info. However, there is one thing I'm curious about. I understand that eBooks are essentially the same as regular printed materials in terms of copyrights, but what about in terms of sales? Because you (the creator of content) are essentially the one who creates the PDF or ePub, do you (the creator) have to patent or copyright those titles? Or is this the publisher's job? I don't know how this works. Thanks, all! :)

When you create the item, you own the copyright, but if you sign a contract with another entity to produce it, you may sign away your ownership or parts of it if you aren't careful.
